COLUMBIA, Mo. – South Dakota women's tennis team fell in its season opener for the dual campaign with Sunday's 5-2 setback at Missouri inside Green Tennis Center.
The Tigers secured the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles while South Dakota second doubles tandem of
Grace Chadick and
Bea Havlickova posted a 6-0 in.
Havlickova, a senior, posted a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win at No. 1 singles while
Sorcha Caves, a sophomore, earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles for the Coyotes.Â
"We played well and fought head against an SEC team," head coach
Brett Barnett said. "Grace and Bea played great doubles and got us ahead. We had chances on the other two courts to get the doubles point.
"Sorcha and Bea played so well to win in straight sets. We had chances on other courts but couldn't win the deuce points. All in all I am very happy with what I saw today. We can build on this and keep getting better."
South Dakota will play a pair of matches inside Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls next week, hosting Missouri State on Thursday and Sioux Falls on Friday.
