TULSA, Okla. — A three-pointer from
Carley Duffney tied the game at 65 early in the fourth quarter, but it was Oral Roberts who pulled away with an 82-70 win over South Dakota Saturday afternoon inside the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Â
Duffney's three-pointer tied the game up for the first time with 8:26 to play. Oral Roberts didn't lead by more than 10 points until the 4:41 mark of the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles went on a 13-0 run to all but seal a win.
Â
For the second straight game, and the fourth time this season,
Grace Larkins and
Alexi Hempe both passed the 20-point threshold Saturday. Larkins notched her second straight double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds while Hempe added 23 points and four rebounds.
Â
With her 29 points, Larkins is over 1,700 career points. She is the fourth player in USD history to eclipse 1,700 points and 700 rebounds in a career. The other three are Mandy Koupal (2,142 points, 1,027 rebounds), Hannah (Sjerven) Slater (1,746, 948), and one of her assistant coaches, Amber (Hegge) Cunningham (1,759, 841).
Â
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Coyotes cut the lead to a possession before Oral Roberts opened up a 24-17 lead. The seven-point lead held true at the half as the Coyotes managed to hang in the game.
Â
The Coyotes cut the deficit to a single point twice in the third quarter, both times off three-pointers, one from Hempe and one from Larkins. After Oral Roberts opened up a six-point 63-57 lead in the final minute of the third, Hempe continued to torch the nets from deep, sinking a three to make it a 63-60 game heading to the fourth.
Â
A 13-0 run for Oral Roberts over a six-minute stretch in the fourth quarter wound up being the difference. The Coyotes shot 45% from the floor and converted 17-of-22 free throw attempts, but the balanced attack of the Golden Eagles, who had four players score in double figures, was too much for South Dakota.
Â
Outside of Larkins and Hempe, Duffney added seven points, including the three that tied the game at 65. In her second game back from injury,
Cassidy Carson contributed five points in limited minutes off the bench on her birthday.
Â
South Dakota has the next two Summit League matchups at home as they host St. Thomas Thursday and Omaha Saturday. Thursday's game against St. Thomas is Agriculture Day and USD-Sioux Falls Day at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center and Saturday's game with Omaha is the annual Alumni Game.
