Goalkeeper Cambell Fischer made two saves for the Yotes, while Mali Van Meeteren, Ashby Johnston, and Sam Luft each placed shots on goal.
The match featured a physical tone throughout, with five yellow cards issued between the two sides.
Kansas City held on defensively in the second half to secure the clean sheet and the quarterfinals win.
South Dakota finishes the season with a 7–6–6 record overall and an even 3–3–2 mark in Summit League play, while Kansas City moves on to Tulsa, to take on Oral Roberts in the semifinals.
