LINCOLN, Neb. -- South Dakota women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 dual loss to Nebraska on Saturday inside the Dillon Tennis Center.
The Coyotes, falling to 3-3 on the season, couldn't capture the doubles point to begin the match and never was able to regain momentum against a Nebraska squad that is now 6-1.Â
"Tough match today for us," head coach
Brett Barnett said. "Nebraska has a good team this year as always and I expect them to be ranked next week.
"This comes down to missed opportunities for us everywhere.Â
South Dakota's sophomore duo of
Sorcha Caves and
Amanda de Oliveira earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles before Nebraska clinched the doubles point with a close 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles over
Bea Havlickova and
Grace Chadick.
"We played good doubles in the top two courts and could've had a ton of momentum if we closed out another court," said Barnett. "Sorcha and Amanda played amazing doubles today, aggressive, active and very smart."
Chadick, a senior, earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to move to 4-2 on the dual season and 11-3 overall on the year.Â
"We had our chances in singles and couldn't close out games, deuce points and some tight sets," added Barnett. "Grace did a nice job playing smart and winning in straights.Â
"We're close to putting it all together but definitely need to improve under pressure. We'll learn from this and be a better team from this match."
South Dakota faces another stern test with a road trip to Iowa State next Sunday, Feb. 16.Â
