Coyotes fall 2-0 to Wildcats

VERMILLION, S.D. — The South Dakota soccer team drops their first contest of the season to the Wildcats of Kansas State Thursday night in Vermillion.

The 2-0 loss to KSU drops USD to 1-1-1, while K-State improves to 3-0.

The Coyotes came out hot in the first half, out shooting Kansas State 8-5. Taylor Mulligan and Rylee Haldeman set the offensive tone for the Coyotes today with two shots each and both of Mulligan's being on goal. A quarter of USD's attacking time was in the attacking zone compared to Kansas State only being in the attacking zone for 20% of the first half.  

Kansas State got on the board first with 8 minutes left in the first half play. They'd hold a 1-0 lead at the break. 

The Wildcats came out for the second half with much more aggressive tactics, almost doubling their shots from the first half. The second goal for the Wildcats came just four minutes into the second half. The Wildcats pressure in the second half limited USD to just one shot in the final 45 minutes. 

Cambell fisher was busy in goal tonight having 4 saves on the match. Kansas State ended the game with 14 total shots to South Dakota's nine. 

The Coyotes complete the home stretch on Saturday, August 23 with a 6 p.m. match against the Morningside Mustangs. South Dakota will honor their 10 seniors before the match on Senior Day.  Shape_____________________________________________________________________________________
