RECAP: Coyotes Conclude Non-Conference Play with 1-1 Draw Against Wyoming

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota Coyotes women's soccer team closed out non-conference play with a 1-1 draw against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon, during a special match recognizing Latin and Spanish Heritage.

The Coyotes opened the match with high intensity, applying early pressure on Wyoming. Both teams played evenly through the first 45 minutes, with South Dakota registering six shots to Wyoming's four. The scoring opened in the 28th minute when Klarissa Vega connected on a spectacular header off a well-placed cross from Rylee Haldeman, giving USD a 1-0 lead.

Wyoming responded quickly after the break, netting the equalizer just three minutes into the second half. While the Coyotes maintained offensive pressure throughout the remainder of the match — recording four shots on goal — they were unable to break the deadlock. Wyoming managed just one shot on target in the second half.

At the final whistle, South Dakota had outshot Wyoming 17-8 overall, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal, but the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Coyotes (now closing non-conference play) will remain at home for their Summit League opener against St. Thomas on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
