SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota women's soccer Elsie Odney has been named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Odney was also named an honorable mention selection for TopDrawerSoccer's Women's Team of the Week for Oct. 12-18.

Odney helped the Coyotes earn a 3-0 shutout victory over St. Thomas on Sunday, Oct. 18, in St. Paul, Minnesota. South Dakota limited the Tommies to five shots and just one shot on goal in the win.

Odney contributed on the offensive end, recording two assists on the Coyotes' three first-half goals. Her efforts helped South Dakota build a 3-0 lead at halftime before the defense completed the shutout.

Odney also helped the Coyotes secure a 1-0 victory over Omaha on Oct. 15. She recorded one shot on goal and played 76 minutes as South Dakota earned another shutout win.

This is Elsie's first Summit League Defender of the Week honor in her career.

The TopDrawerSoccer recognition placed Odney among the national publication's honorable mention selections for its weekly team, which recognizes standout performances from women's college soccer players across the country.
