Honore Jr. Earns MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week Nod

10.05.2026

VERMILLION, S.D. — Punter Brook Honore Jr. has had a strong season in his first year as the Coyote punter. He solidified it on Dakota Days with a huge day, landing Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Sycamores.

In a deceptively busy afternoon for the Honore Jr., who had a surprising six punts in a 44-14 win over Indiana State on Dakota Days. Half of those punts (3) went for 50+ yards, including a new career-long punt of 70 yards late in the fourth quarter for the Yotes. He totaled 309 yards on the six boots with three landing inside the 20-yard line. His efforts helped pin the Sycamores continually deep in their own territory to start each drive.
It's the first career MVFC weekly honor for Honore Jr., who transferred to South Dakota this past offseason after spending the 2025 campaign at Cal.

The Manvel, Texas native is the second Coyote to earn MVFC weekly honors this season. He joins Austyn Modrzewski who won Offensive and Newcomer of the Week after the season-opener win over Central Connecticut State.

Honore Jr. also becomes the first punter for South Dakota to land a weekly honor since Brady Schutt did back in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.

South Dakota returns to action this weekend (October 10) when they play host to No. 25-ranked Southern Illinois for the program's second top-25 clash of the season. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. from the DakotaDome.
