VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota women's soccer rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Kansas City on Thursday night at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
The Coyotes (4-4-4, 1-1-2 Summit League) outshot the Roos 29-13, including a 14-7 advantage in the second half, to complete the comeback.
Kansas City took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals in the 31st and 41st minutes. Brooklyn Lupinacci opened the scoring before Abigail Chaddock doubled the Roos' advantage just before halftime.
South Dakota responded early in the second half when Kinsley Pesicka found the back of the net off a rebounded shot by Klarissa Vega in the 48th minute, cutting the deficit to one. The Coyotes continued to pressure the Kansas City defense, generating 14 shots in the second half.
With less than two minutes remaining, Brooklynn Pollmiller delivered the equalizer in the 89th minute to secure the 2-2 draw and secure a hard-earned point. Here's what Pollmiller had to say after the late goal, "It feels great to get in that tie and props to Klarissa for going up for the header and being able to create that moment for me to tap it in for the goal."
Klarissa Vega and Brooke Conway led the Coyotes with six shots apiece, while Pesicka recorded four shots and scored her goal. South Dakota finished with 11 shots on goal and earned seven corner kicks. Cambell Fischer made three saves in goal.
The Coyotes continue Summit League play at home on Sunday, Oct. 11, against Oral Roberts. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
