Coyotes fall 1-6 against Lobos

MOSCOW, IDAHO – The South Dakota Coyotes women's tennis came up short Saturday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 decision to the New Mexico Lobos women's tennis in a neutral-site contest in Moscow, Idaho.

The Yotes battled throughout the lineup but was unable to overcome a strong start from New Mexico, which swept the doubles point and claimed five of six singles matches.

The Lobos secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and one before closing out the sweep at No. 3. Anna Medvyedyeva and Keta Shavishvili fell 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Selena Bird and Cassy Marra were defeated 6-3 at the top spot. Kayleigh Didderiens and Ava Doddridge pushed their match to a 7-5 finish at No. 3, but New Mexico completed the doubles sweep.

In singles play, the Coyotes' lone victory came at the top of the lineup. Selena Bird delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win to put South Dakota on the board.

New Mexico responded by taking the remaining five matches in straight sets. The Lobos claimed victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles by identical 6-3 scores in both sets, and added straight-set wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the team result.
