PHOENIX, Ariz. — South Dakota softball fell 9-1 to Sacramento State Sunday morning at GCU Softball Stadium to wrap up play at the GCU Invite.

Sacramento State struck quickly with a two-run home run in the first inning and added three more runs in the third to build a 5-0 lead. The Hornets extended the advantage with another run in the fourth before putting the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth.
South Dakota's lone run came in the fourth inning when
Brooke Carey scored on a throwing error after an
Abi Brown single put runners in scoring position.
Sacramento State finished with 11 hits while South Dakota totaled seven. Carey and
Delaney White led the Coyotes with two hits each, while
Madison Evans added a hit at the plate and struck out five in four innings in the circle.
Evans took the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) across four innings.
Campbell German worked two innings of relief.
