OMAHA, Neb. — The South Dakota Coyotes women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Creighton on Wednesday afternoon in Omaha.
Creighton claimed the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bluejays secured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the point, while the Coyotes' No. 3 duo of Selena Bird and Ava Doddridge picked up a 6-4 victory over Alem Cote and Teresa Tran.
South Dakota responded with a strong showing at the top of the singles lineup, earning victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
At the No. 1 spot, Selena Bird defeated Sophie Schwartz in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Kayleigh Didderiens followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Ana Paula Martinez at No. 2 singles to give the Coyotes their second point of the match.
Creighton secured the overall victory by winning the remaining four singles matches. Annika Elvestrom earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Keta Shavishvili at No. 4 singles, while Livia Rodrigues Daud defeated Ava Doddridge 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
At No. 5 singles, Cassy Marra forced a third set before falling to Alem Cote 6-2, 3-6, 6-0. The match at No. 3 singles also went the distance, with Teresa Tran topping Anna Medvyedyeva 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 to seal the Bluejays' fifth point.
The Coyotes stay on the road to head to Lawerence, Kansas to take on the Jayhawks this Friday in what will be the final non-conference matchup this season for the Yotes.
