KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The second-straight game of this series was decided by just a single run but this afternoon it was the home side in Kansas City walking away victorious with the game-winning run in the seventh on the day the Roos celebrated their seniors at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City.
PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Delilah Robles (12-15)
Loss: German Campbell (0-7)
Allie Cromer started the day with a two out hit in the first inning, going 5-for-5 in her first five at-bats against Kansas City on the weekend and making it four-straight games with a hit. Back-to-back hits from Cromer and
Brooke Carey put the first threat of a run in Game 2. A KC dropped fly ball would score the first two runs of the game before the final out of the inning was recorded at third base on the play.
A walk and bunt single put a pair of Roos on the bases right off the bat put the pressure on the Yote defense in the bottom half of the first. It proved to be a moot point as freshman
Aubrey Lensmeyer, quite easily, worked out of the early trouble with two fly outs and a ground out to keep it 2-0 Yotes after one.
Kansas City would load the bases in the second inning with just one away. A sacrifice fly for Ella Husak plated the first KC run, making it 2-1. An RBI single right up the middle from Lauren Parker would knot things up at 2-2.
Campbell German entered in relief to start the third inning and immediately had the KC bats in a state of confusion and had them off-balance.
Both pitchers kept the respective offenses at bay, as no runs were scored between the third and sixth innings, knotted up at 2-2 heading into the final frame.
Kansas City would load the bases in the home half of the seventh with just one away. German would get a punch out on a full count to get the second out. However, a hit by pitch would drive in the game-winning run for Kansas City as the Roos even the series at one win apiece.
Six Coyotes recorded hits on the day, but no official runs driven in attributed as both Coyote runs scored on an error in the outfield in the first inning.
Autumn Iversen went 1-for-3 as her one hit on the afternoon makes it six-straight games with a hit – tying the team's lead for longest hit streak this season.
Lensmeyer (ND) made her fourth start of the season and 20
th appearance in Game 2. Her day lasted two innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and two runs. German (L, 0-7) made her 22
nd appearance of the season, coming in relief to start the third inning. She allowed just four hits through her 4.2 innings of work, allowing just the one run. She had six strike outs to just one walk issued.
