VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota sports medicine team welcomes Luke Bembenek to the athletic training team, serving as the head athletic trainer for the Coyotes volleyball and tennis programs.
A native of Stevens Point, Wis., Bembenek graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2024 with an undergraduate degree in Health Science. Bembenek earned his master's of Science in athletic training from UW-Stevens Point in May of 2026.
Bembenek worked with the Pointers Women's Hockey, Baseball, Football and Volleyball programs as a student athletic trainer during his clinical rotations. In his role, Bembenek assisted with practices and home games and with rehabilitation for both upper- and lower-body injuries.
With the hockey program, Bembenek was involved in hip and lower back rehabilitation of student-athletes.
In addition to his work at the collegiate level, he worked at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, assisting with the care and evaluation of Red Raider winter-sport athletes.
A member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), Bembenek already has familiarity with Vermillion and USD as a member of the Coyotes football training staff during the 2025 season for his clinical immersion experience.
