VERMILLION, S.D. — The South Dakota women's soccer team earned a hard-fought point Thursday evening after tying South Dakota State 0-0 at home to start both schools in Summit League play, and the Interstate Series presented by First Interstate Bank.
The Coyotes move to 3-3-3 overall and 0-0-1 in conference.
The Jackrabbits kicked things off to start the first 45 minutes but was quickly turned into a Coyote fast break resulting in the first shot of the match by Elsie Odney that ended up wide right. The first half had a total of 14 shots from both teams while two of them were on target for the Coyotes. South Dakota State started off the second half quickly, putting up four shots in the first five minutes to open the half.
A strong defensive play from Sam Luft and Taylor Mulligan resulted in South Dakota State only having six shots on target out of 17 total shots. Cambell Fisher in goal was the anchor tonight for the Coyote defense. Fischer finished the match with six total saves and earned her third shutout of the season. Here is what Cambell had to say after facing so many shots tonight, "It was a good time, I'm really proud of my defense and how they made it easy on me and like you said 17 shots but when they have only six on goal that's pretty easy on me."
On the offensive side of the ball Brooke Conway finished the match with five total shots and one on target. Kinsley Pesicka and Brooklyn Pollmiller both finished with three shots each with Pollmiller finding two on target.
A physical matchup overall, however only ending in eight fouls on the Jackrabbits and five fouls and one yellow card for the Coyotes.
