VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota women's soccer fell 1-0 to Idaho Thursday night at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex, as the Vandals scored the lone goal of the match in the 34th minute.
Idaho (4-1-1) opened the scoring at the 33:15 mark when Alyssa Hamilton found the back of the net on an unassisted effort to give the Vandals a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. Just before halftime Cambell Fischer in net for USD saved a PK just minutes before half to hold the Vandals at one goal for the half.
South Dakota (2-3-2) continued to battle in the second half, putting 10 shots toward the Idaho goal, but Vandal's goalkeeper Paula Flores made two saves to preserve the shutout. The Coyotes finished the night with 15 total shots, including five on goal.
Cambell Fischer kept South Dakota within striking distance throughout the match, recording three saves on four Idaho shots on target. Fischer also saved a PK just minutes before half to hold the Vandals at one goal. The Vandals held a 17-15 advantage in total shots and earned two corner kicks compared to two for the Coyotes.
South Dakota generated several opportunities late including a shot by Sam Luft in the final 15 seconds but were unable to find the equalizer as Idaho held on for the road victory.
The Coyotes return to action Sunday for Senior Day, hosting Drake First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
