Sauvage Athletic Scholarship
History
This endowment was established by Nicola Tsongas in honor of her father, Russell Sauvage, upon his 80th birthday. Russell Sauvage attended USD from 1934-38. While at the University, he played football and was a member of Phi Delta Theta as well as belonging to the ROTC chapter. Russell was inducted into USD's Coyote Hall of Fame for football in 1975.
Russell served as a Colonel in the Air Force for 20 years, serving in Germany, Japan, Texas, Virginia and at the Pentagon. After his retirement form the military in 1966, he worked for several engineering construction companies, aiding in the development of public transit systems in Washington DC, Atlanta, Buffalo, and Portland.
Fund Notes
Started in 1995, earnings generated are used to provide undergraduate scholarships for students who are enrolled in or accepted by USD and meet all USD requirements to be a student in good standing. Candidates who are members of the football team have first consideration.
