History
This endowment fund was established in honor of the achievements of coaching legend Dave Boots, the coaching staff, and student-athletes from 1988-2013.
Coach Dave Boots – the winningest Coyote men’s basketball coach, leading the team for 25 years – instilled hard work, pride, and camaraderie amongst his players, the USD and Vermillion communities, and fans. Coach Boots consistently demonstrated his commitment to excellence for the program, which is evident in his many accomplishments. His drive motivated his players to also achieve great things, whether it was winning conference honors, individual accolades, or academic goals.
Through the Dave and Peggy Boots Scholarship Endowment, those generations of USD men’s basketball players and supporters can give back to the program that helped elevate the pride and reputation of Coyotes athletics.
Supporting this endowment will help to honor the legacy of commitment that Coach Boots established at USD and show our enduring loyalty to our alma mater.
Fund Notes
Started in 2021, earnings generated are used to support USD Athletics, to honor the legacy of commitment that Coach Boots established at USD. A scholarship award will be made each year to a student-athlete who is a member of the Men's Basketball team and meets all USD requirements to be a student in good standing. Preference will be given to a student-athlete who is a team leader and maintains a high level of character.
