Bailey Johanson

Bailey Johanson joined the South Dakota Track and Field/Cross Country staff as the Director of Operations and Assistant Coach in July of 2025.

Johanson is responsible for budgeting, planning team travel, equipment management, and assisting with on-campus visits as the director of operations, and will assist in coaching jumps for the Yotes.

She comes to South Dakota following a year at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota as an assistant coach for the track and field program, working with the horizontal events and assisting multi-event athletes in the long jump.

Johanson competed at North Dakota State in the long and triple jumps, graduating in 2020. She finished her five-year career with the No. 2 all-time indoor triple jump and the No. 5 all-time outdoor triple jump mark at NDSU. She swept the indoor and outdoor triple jump Summit League titles in 2019, qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds during the outdoor season.
 
Following the conclusion of her Bison career, Johanson was a volunteer coach for the Bison, assisting with the horizontal jumps, and coached horizontal jumps at Davies High School in Fargo. While coaching at Davies for three years, Johanson’s athletes claimed four individual conference titles, three individual state titles, and three athletes went on to compete in track and field at the Division I level.
 
Johanson is from St. Francis, Minn.. She now resides in Vermillion with her husband Christopher and their daughter Ivy.
