University of South Dakota Athletics

Josh Winfield is in his first season assisting the defensive line for Coyote football. He is also working on his master’s degree at University of South Dakota.

Originally from Las Vegas, Winfield played linebacker in three Nevada state championships for Las Vegas High School. He won a state championship with the Wildcats during his senior season.

Winfield continued his education at University of Mary in North Dakota where he was a four-year letterwinner, a team captain as a senior, and a member of the top defensive squad in the NSIC in 2007. He graduated from Mary with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009.

Winfield returned to Las Vegas High School and coached linebackers and defensive backs in a 3-4 scheme. He also assisted with special teams units and with the program’s strength and conditioning coaches. He took a job at Southern Oregon University following the 2012 season.

Winfield helped lead Southern Oregon to a 13-2 record and an NAIA National Championship in 2014, his second year on staff. Winfield coached linebackers and assisted with special teams for the Raiders. He successfully recruited in the Las Vegas area.
