Kurt Troutman begins his first season at South Dakota as an assistant coach on the defensive line. He comes to USD after a stint at Culver-Stockton College in Missouri. Prior to Culver-Stockton, Troutman was a Graduate Assistant at Winona State University working with the defensive linemen. Under Troutman, defensive tackle Matt Ulrich has been an All-NSIC selection two times. He also helped tutor defensive end Lewis Johnson to all-league honors in 2010.

Prior to joining the Warrior staff, Troutman coached the defensive line at Michigan Tech in 2008 and 2009. He worked with two All-Conference linemen in his two seasons at his alma mater.

Troutman was an All-GLIAC First Team performer at center, as well as an All-Region selection, for Michigan Tech. He helped lead Michigan Tech to the GLIAC Championship and an NCAA Division II Playoff appearance in 2004. He also holds three strength records at Michigan Tech, setting program marks in the squat, dead lift and power clean.
