Ryan Jirgl enters his first season coaching safeties at South Dakota after coaching linebackers and special teams the past two seasons at Albright College, a Division III program in Pennsylvania. He helped Albright to back-to-back 8-3 seasons.

Prior to coaching at Albright, Jirgl was a two-year starter at safety for Winona State. During his collegiate career he helped the Warriors to two NSIC championships, two NCAA D-II playoff appearances and was an All-Northern Sun selection in 2010. As a senior, he played for current USD coaches Jason Petrino and Marquice Williams. After graduation, Jirgl spent the 2011 season coaching the secondary at The Academy of Holy Angels High School in Richfield, Minn.

Jirgl was a four-sport, all-conference athlete at Wausau East High School in Wisconsin. He competed in football, basketball, baseball and track.

Jirgl is currently working on a Master's Degree at USD in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on education and human performance.
