Tim Morrison was elevated to Associate Head Coach by head coach Matt Vitzthum in July 2026 heading into his fourth season on staff at South Dakota. He's held the Scott & Lisa Jones Family Offensive Coordinator position since December 2024, after two seasons (2023-24) as the tight ends coach, joining the South Dakota staff in the spring of 2023.
In his first season as playcaller at South Dakota, Morrison helped guide an offense that sat top-20 (No. 19) in rushing at 189.0 yards per game. The rushing attack was heavily aided by L.J. Phillips Jr. who ran for 1,921+ yards, which led the FCS last season. Phillips Jr. also sat top-10 in yards per carry (6.53, 3rd) and rushing touchdowns (19, T6th). Additionally, he called plays for the final season of Aidan Bouman leading the offense - who in 2025 set the program record for career passing yards (9,278), pass attempts (1,078), and completions (695). Larenzo Fenner at wide out also broke out onto the national stage with his South Dakota single-season record of 15 receiving touchdowns, while becoming the first Yote in the Division I era to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season (1,001 yards) with his 15 touchdowns sitting second most in the FCS in 2025.
In his time as the USD tight ends coach, Morrison coached the likes of First Team (AP) All-American in JJ Galbreath (2024) in both of his seasons. Galbreath combined for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdown receptions in his two seasons with Morrison as his coach.
Prior to joining Nielson's staff in 2023, he served as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Division DII Upper Iowa University for the 2021 and 2022 campaigns.
Before Upper Iowa, Morrison spent 10 seasons at DII perennial power Grand Valley State (Mich.), joining the staff as the offensive line and tight ends coach. His final five seasons with the Lakers (2013-17), he served as the Offensive Coordinator and, in those seasons, made three trips to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
In 2002, Morrison returned to his alma mater at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa as the offensive line and tight ends coach for seven seasons. In his final two seasons at the now American Rivers Conference power, he served as the Offensive Coordinator where he helped lead the Knights to the 2008 A-R-C title and earn a berth to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
Morrison began his coaching career at Allegheny College (Pa.) in 1999, serving as the program's special teams coordinator and linebackers' coach.
He was a four-year letter winner at Warburg from 1995-98. He started at fullback for Nielson in 1998, Nielson's final season in Waverly where the Knights put together a 9-1 campaign.
Morrison and his wife, Betsy, have a daughter, Harper, and a son, Knox.
