Shaye Morten joined the USD sports medicine team in August 2026 as the Assistant Football Athletic Trainer, working along side the Coyote football program and Head FB AT Brooke Opdahl.
Morten comes to South Dakota after completing his master's degree in athletic training from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and his clinical rotations en route to his athletic training degree.

His most recent experience came at Bellevue West High School down in Bellevue, Nebraska where he worked with the school district on updating policies surrounding concussion protocols and educating student-athletes.

Throughout his clinical rotation, Morten worked at different levels of athletic departments gaining valuable athletic training experience. Part of his rotation included a stop at South Dakota, working with Coyote football, throughout the summer months in 2025.

He's also spent time at Iowa Western Community College, Omaha Westside High School, Creighton University (men's soccer), and the University of Tennessee (football).

Morten is a 2024 graduate of Wayne State College with a degree in exercise science, while earning his master's degree in athletic training from Omaha in 2026.
