Tyler Custis is in his second year as a full-time throws coach at the University of South Dakota for 2014-15.

In the 2014 season, five of the 15 athletes qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminary round were members of Custis's throws crew. At the Summit League Championships, his throwers accounted for 96 points outdoors and 44 indoors in the men's and women's combined team scores.

A native of Custer, S.D., Custis was a graduate assistant/volunteer coach for the USD throws program from 2009 to 2013. During that time, he coached throwers Meghan Dennis (women's javelin) and Cody Snyder (men's discus) to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2013.

A 2007 graduate from Texas A&M University, Custis was a three-time indoor and two-time outdoor All-Big 12 honoree and finished in the top-15 in the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor Championships twice. He was an Academic All-American as a senior and graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics.

He graduated from USD with a Master's degree in Business Administration in 2011 and a Juris
