Kayla Tetschlag was named assistant women's basketball coach on May 5, 2016.

Tetschlag was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 class of 2018.

In her two seasons at USD, the Coyotes compiled a 52-16 record with a pair of Women's National Invitation Tournament berths. South Dakota won the 2017-18 Summit League regular season title and became the first Summit champion to go undefeated in league play in 24 years. The Coyotes advanced to the WNIT quarterfinals with a thrilling overtime victory against Michigan State. South Dakota recorded its fourth-straight 20-win season and eight consecutive postseason appearance at the Division I level.

Tetschlag has worked with three all-Summit League players including 2018 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Jasmine Trimboli, two-time all-league first team pick Allison Arens and all-league first team player Ciara Duffy.

Tetschlag came to South Dakota from the University of Sioux Falls. She was the top assistant at Sioux Falls for the 2015-16 season as the Cougars won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Tetschlag assisted with player development, scouted opponents, served as recruiting coordinator, supervised academics and handled administrative operations of the program.
 
Prior to Sioux Falls, Tetschlag spent four years abroad playing professional basketball in Europe. Her stops included ??Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. She earned awards such as the Luxembourg Defensive Player of the Year and All-German League Forward of the Year. In four seasons abroad, she averaged a double-double and consistently ranked among her respective league’s top-three for points and rebounds.

Tetschlag, who played for Green Bay, was the Horizon League Player of the Year in 2011. She received the Horizon League Cecil N. Colman Medal of Honor at the conclusion of her playing career. Tetschlag led Green Bay to four Horizon League titles, three NCAA Tournaments and the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2011. She was twice first-team all-league, made the all-defensive team as a senior and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as a junior and senior.

Tetschlag graduated from The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2011 with a bachelor’s of business administration with a marketing emphasis.
