Madisen Martinez joined the Coyote women's basketball staff as the creative content coordinator on June 10, 2021. She spent one season with the Coyotes, assisting with recruiting, travel coordination and content creation.
Martinez worked with the Coyotes during a memorable season in which USD compiled a 29-6 record, captured a share of the Summit League regular season title, won the Summit League Tournament and made the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
The Coyotes made noise on the big stage during the 2022 NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16 as a No. 10 seed. The postseason run included a 75-61 win over a receiving votes Ole Miss squad, followed by a 61-47 takedown of No. 7/5 Baylor in the second round. It was the biggest win in program history and a Summit League squad’s first win over a top-10 nationally ranked team since 1994. South Dakota fell to No. 12/12 Michigan, 52-49, in the Sweet 16.
A native of Vermillion, South Dakota, Martinez spent her undergraduate career working as a digital media intern for the women’s basketball program in addition to working as a student photographer for the athletic department’s sports information office. She also worked as a freelance reporter and photographer for The Vermillion PlainTalk newspaper.
Martinez graduated from The University of South Dakota in May of 2021 with her bachelor’s degree in media and journalism.
