Kylea Sheley

Kylea Sheley joined the athletic training staff in the summer of 2015. Sheley is the primary athletic trainer for the Coyote women's basketball program.

Sheley is a recipient of the 2018 Iron Will Award, an award that recognizes outstanding athletes who have successfully returned to competition following a serious athletic injury along with the athletic trainers that played a major role in the athlete's rehabilitation process. Sheley and Coyote alumna Jasmine Trimboli received the recognition from the South Dakota Athletic Trainers' Association.

Sheley also received the 2018 Harry E. Settles Contributor of the Year honor from the University of South Dakota physical therapy department.

Sheley earned her master’s degree in kinesiology and sport science from the University of South Dakota in May of 2013. She worked as a graduate assistant under Fischbach for two years while working on her degree. During her time at South Dakota, Sheley worked with football, track and field, soccer and softball. Sheley has also been a member of the South Dakota Athletic Trainers’ Association since the fall of 2011.

After completing her master's program at USD, Sheley spent a year as a certified athletic trainer at Avera Sports Institute and registered chiropractic assistant for Vitality Chiropractic in Sioux Falls, S.D. She also spent the 2014-15 season working as the head athletic trainer for Davenport Assumption High School and as a clinic technician at Rock Valley Physical Therapy in Davenport, Iowa.
 
A 2011 graduate of Iowa State University, Sheley gained four years of experience working in the Cyclone training room as an undergraduate. She received Iowa State’s Frank Randall Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2011.
 
Sheley also brings experience from working major events including the 2013 USA Track & Field National Championships, the Drake Relays and the Special Olympics.

Sheley and her wife, Ali, reside in Vermillion.
