Maddie Burdick

Maddie Burdick joined the women’s soccer coaching staff as the graduate assistant prior to the 2018 season and was promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2019 season. Burdick enters her third season with the Coyotes and second as an assistant coach in 2020.

Burdick helped coach Alexis Mitchell to second-team all-Summit League and third-team all-West Region honors, the second straight Coyote to earn the award. Mitchell also earned Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honors (Sept. 23) and was named Summit League Player to Watch.

She also helped coach Kellee Willer to first-team all-Summit League honors, the second straight Coyote to earn the honor. Abby Ostrem earned second-team all-Summit League while freshman Lexie Wood was named to the all-Freshman Team.

In her first year with the Coyotes, Burdick helped USD to its best season in the Division I era with nine wins. She assisted head coach Michael Thomas in coaching South Dakota’s first all-region honoree, Taryn LaBree, along with two all-Summit League performers.

Burdick, a graduate of Northern Colorado, was a four-year letter winner for the Bears soccer team where she earned Big Sky all-conference accolades as a goalkeeper. She owns several school records including career wins (28), career shutouts (19) and most shutouts in a season (10).

She was named MVP of the Big Sky Conference Tournament in 2015, helping Northern Colorado advance to the NCAA Tournament. She stopped all three penalty kicks she faced in the shootout.

In addition to playing, Burdick has volunteered at Junipero Serra High School in her hometown of San Diego, California, as the goalkeepers coach. She is also involved in Soccer Without Borders, a program that uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing under-served youth with a toolkit to overcome obstacles to growth, inclusion and personal success.

Academically, she earned Big Sky and All-West Region academic accolades and was part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Burdick earned her bachelor of science in audiology and speech language sciences in May of 2018, with a minor in special education. She will pursue a master of arts in sport management and kinesiology from USD.
