Twelve Coyote Football Players Earn All-Great West Honors

Vermillion, S.D. - Twelve members of the South Dakota football team earned All-Great West Conference honors, including four Coyotes on the first team, the league announced on Tuesday. The annual accolades are based on a vote of the conference coaches.

Senior quarterback Noah Shepard (Thornton, Colo.), sophomore running back Chris Ganious (Houston, Texas), senior offensive lineman Jake Arthur (Clark, S.D.) and senior defensive lineman Ko Quaye (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) all earned first-team honors after posting impressive seasons for USD. Shepard completed 63 percent (188-of-297) of his passes for 2,451 yards and 21 touchdowns, while adding 500 yards on the ground and 13 touchdowns. He ranked seventh in the nation in total offense (295.1 ypg). Ganious posted a team-high 828 rushing yards and four touchdowns, all behind the excellent blocking of Arthur. USD's rushing offense was 11th in the nation (202.1 ypg). On the defensive side of the ball, Quaye had 31 tackles, seven tackles for loss for 22 yards and a half sack. He notched three quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one pass breakup.

Two USD players earned second-team accolades on the offensive side of the ball, while four Coyote defenders also claimed the honor. Senior Luke Nordquist (Lake City, S.D.) was part of an offensive line that allowed just 10 sacks on the season, which ranked 10th in the nation. Junior tight end London Landry (Lancaster, Calif.) caught 24 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Senior defensive lineman Wayne Curry (Tampa, Fla.) led the Great West with nine sacks on the season, to supplement his 39 tackles and nine tackles for loss for 48 yards. He also had two quarterback hurries and one forced fumble. Sophomore linebacker Adam Broders (Bloomfield, Neb.) also posted a conference-leading stat by averaging 8.7 tackles per contest and finished with a team-leading 78 stops. He also had 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Fellow linebacker Ryan Routh (Sioux Falls, S.D.) notched 35 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks during his senior campaign. Sophomore defensive back Shane Potter (Becker, Minn.) finished second on USD's squad with 67 total tackles, including 36 solo stops. He had two interceptions and a forced fumble on the year.

Senior wide receiver Dan Skelly (Champlin, Minn.) and sophomore offensive lineman Tom Compton (Rosemount, Minn.) were honorable mentions. Skelly battled through a hand injury to break the Coyotes' all-time touchdown receptions record with 19, while Compton helped a USD offense that ranked fourth in the nation in total offense (460.3 ypg).

In its sixth season under head coach Ed Meierkort, South Dakota finished 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Great West to complete its second year in the transition to NCAA Division I. To view the complete All-Great West teams, click on the link above.
