VERMILLION, S.D.—The University of South Dakota women's basketball team will host Northwest Missouri State Friday (Dec. 18) at 6 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
USD and Northwest Missouri State battled till the final buzzer three times last season with the Coyotes losing the first game, 73-71, before winning the next two, 56-55, and 75-74. The Coyotes improved their record to 3-4, posting a 75-50 win over Creighton last Friday in Vermillion. The Lady Bearcats are 7-2, including a 73-58 win over Creighton last week.
Pam Olerich led the Coyotes against Creighton, scoring 15 points and grabbing 8 rebounds to top both categories. Olerich connected on six of nine floor shots and all three free throws. Twelve of
Jo Haase's 14 points were in the first half, helping USD to a 35-21 lead. Haase also had six steals.
Karrie Wallen scored 13 points and
Katie Dailey handed out six assists while scoring eight points.
"We started slow against Creighton but ended up with our best shooting night (FG 31-57, 54.4 percent and FT 13-16, 81.3 percent)" claimed Coach Mary Zimmerman. "I was happy with our defense and again with our bench play. We'll need a good start against Northwest Missouri State. They're very aggressive and a good rebounding club which should make for another close game."
