South Dakota Comes Up Short To Southwest State, 68-65

The Coyotes trailed Southwest State 42-27 at halftime and with 3:57 left in the game the Mustangs held a 65-51 advantage. The 14-point cushion quickly disappeared as the Coyotes went on a 14-1 scoring run for a 66-65 deficit with 17 seconds remaining. But, Southwest State managed to hold off the Coyotes with a pair of free throws with eight seconds showing . . . USD, which shot 29.6 percent in the first half and 33.3 for the game, was led by Kelly Koepp's 15 points. Melinda Oster had 13 points and Julia Frie finished with 12 points. Heather Nelson had nine points with four apiece for Dawn Sudbeck, Nicole Jaycox and Gwen Meyer. Southwest State shot 45.1 percent and each team had 40 rebounds. Oster paced the Coyotes with eight boards.
