Vermillion, SD - South Dakota came up short to St. Cloud State on Friday, Jan. 28 with a 71-68 loss to the Huskies. USD, 9-8 overall and 2-6 in the NCC, trailed 36-35 at halftime. In the second half, the Coyotes fell behind by 16 points at 59-43 with 10:01 left. But, USD rallied and came within one point at 68-67 with 10 seconds showing. The Huskies then used free throws to hold off the Coyotes. The Coyotes, who shot 41.4 percent, were led by Julia Frie's 23 points and nine rebounds. Heather Nelson had 18 points and Kelly Koepp finished with 11.USD was outrebounded, 44-42, led by Nelson's 11 boards.
