Women's Basketball falls to Nebraska-Omaha

Vermillion - The South Dakota women's basketball team fell to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in the North Central Conference with a 76-62 loss to Nebraska-Omaha Sunday, Jan. 9 in Vermillion. The Coyotes led the Mavericks, 27-25, at halftime, but Nebraska-Omaha went on a 24-9 scoring run to start the second half for a 49-36 advantage with 11:32 left in the game. The closest USD would come was seven points at 52-45 with 6:36 remaining. Heather Nelson led the Coyotes with 16 points. Three other players were in double figures with Julia Frie netting 15, followed by Nicole Jaycox and Kelly Koepp with 11 and 10 points, respectively. USD shot 37.7 percent compared to 37.5 for the Mavericks. The Coyotes were outrebounded, 44-39, led by eight boards apiece for Frie and Nelson.
