VERMILLION, S.D. (October 17, 2001) -- Junior Janel Johnson (Bellevue, Neb.) scored a game winning goal in overtime to lift The University of South Dakota women's soccer team (7-6-1, 3-4-1 NCC) over Dordt College (8-8), 3-2, Wednesday, October 17, in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Freshman Tina Bonacci (Council Bluffs, Iowa) scored two goals for the Coyotes and senior goalkeeper Sara Nelson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) collected five saves.
In the first period, South Dakota jumped to a 1-0 lead with Bonacci's first goal at 16:42, but Dordt's Meaghan Graham scored at 17:45 to tie the match. Dordt took the lead at 52:42 when Janna Brink scored for the Defenders. In the closing minutes, Bonacci scored (78:51) to tie the game and take the match into overtime, and led to Johnson's game winning goal.
The Coyotes continue this week with their final home match when they host Morningside at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 20 at the USD Soccer Field north of the DakotaDome.
