Jamel White, a former all-American running back at The University of South Dakota, is vying for time at running back in preseason camp for the Cleveland Browns. In a recent article by Mary Kay Chabot in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, White has moved up the Browns' depth chart. Chabot said that White will start the August 10 game vs. the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome.

Jamel White, who begins his third season with the Cleveland Browns, was an all-American back for South Dakota in 1999. White, the first Coyote player ever featured on NFL.com, originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts but was cut at the end of preseason camp in 2000 and immediately signed with the Cleveland Browns. In two seasons, White has rushed 173 times for 588 yards (3.4 average) and five touchdowns. He has also caught 57 passes for 518 yards (9.1 average). In 26 games, he has seven starts. White ended his 2001-02 NFL season in Cleveland with a spectacular finish, starting the final three games of the season. He finished with 126 carries for 443 yards rushing and five touchdowns and 44 catches for 418 yards receiving and one score.
