Vermillion, S.D. (Nov. 6, 2004) -- South Dakota women's basketball coach Chad Lavin has announced that Bridget Yoerger of Hinton, Iowa, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball and enroll at The University of South Dakota next fall (2005).
Yoerger, a 5'11 guard/forward, averaged 15.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game as a junior in 2003-04. She led Hinton High School to a 25-2 record and helped her team advance to the semifinals of Class 1A in Iowa, dropping a 41-38 double overtime decision to English Valley. Hinton defeated defending state champion Rock Valley in the first round of the playoffs. Yoerger was named second-team all state by the Iowa Newspaper Association in Class 1A in Iowa in 2003-04.
In one game last season, Yoerger recorded a quadruple-double, recording 17 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists and 12 steals in a win over River Valley on Nov. 10, 2003. She also set a school record with 15 steals in a win over LeMars Gehlen Catholic a year ago. An Iowa Girls Coaches Association 1A Northwest Team selection, she also was named to the State Tournament Class 1A team last spring.
"Bridget fits the mold of student-athletes that participate in our basketball program," said Lavin. "We are excited about the prospect of having her competing for the Coyotes."
A year ago, South Dakota finished the season with a 25-8 record, including its second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
