South Dakota Women's Basketball Team Records 90-52 Win over Chadron State

CHADRON, NEB. -- The South Dakota Women's Basketball Team improved its record to 12-3 with a 90-52 win over Chadron State (1-10) at the Armstrong Gym in Chadron, Neb., on Saturday afternoon.

South Dakota won its second straight game and now has pick up nine wins in 10 outings. The Coyotes scored 90 points for the first time this season. In addition, USD held an opponent to 60 points or less for the 10th time this season.

Vanessa Yanez, a junior from Wagner, S.D., scored a season-best 20 points to lead the Coyotes in scoring. Yanez made 7-of-13 field goals, including a season-high of 6-of-11 three-point field goals. Freshman forward Bridget Yoerger (Hinton, S.D.) scored 19 points and reached double figures for the 12th time this season. She made 9-of-11 field goals from the field. Sophomore forward Janielle Bryan (Bellevue, Neb.) scored 10 points. Six USD players scored at least nine points. Ashley Robinette (South Sioux City, Iowa), Kristi Tighe (Homer, Neb.), and Erica Schroeder (Miller, S.D.) all had nine points for USD. Senior guard Meghan Woster (Sioux Falls, S.D.) dished out 13 assists while grabbing a team-high six rebounds and scoring five points. Woster had double digits in assists for the sixth time this season.

Overall, the Coyotes hit 32-of-63 field goals for 50.8 percent. USD made 11-of-28 three-point baskets for 39.3 percent and also made 15-of-20 three throws. Chadron State, which was led in scoring by Bec Kyba with 13 points, made 16-of-52 field goals for 30.8 percent. CSC hit 2-of-16 three-point shots for 12.5 percent and also hit 18-of-25 free throws for 72 percent.

South Dakota took control of the game early by breaking to a 10-0 lead at the 16:06 mark on a three-pointer by Yanez. Later a three-pointer by Woster built USD's advantage to 38-10 at the 5:46 mark. Two free throws by Robinette provided USD with a 46-15 lead at the 1:17 mark. USD led, 46-17, at halftime.

The Coyotes also controlled the second half of play, rolling to a 65-20 lead after a three-point basket by Yanez at the 16:07 mark. Two free throws by Ashley Bjorkman (Vermillion, S.D.) helped USD to an 80-38 lead with 6:16 to play. Two free throws by Bryan with 29 seconds left gave USD its final points of the game and a 90-50 lead.

South Dakota will be in action on Jan. 7 with its NCC opener at Augustana. The game will be played at the Sioux Falls Arena with game time set at 6 p.m.
