USD's Trofholz Garners Third NCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Feb. 20, 2006)--Senior All-American Turner Trofholz, of the South Dakota men's basketball team (17-8, 5-5 NCC), has earned his third North Central Conference Player of the Week honor of the season, according to an announcement released from the league office, on Monday.

Trofholz, a native of Schuyler, Neb., recorded 27 points and 11 rebounds for his 13th double double of the season in USD's 79-74 win at North Dakota on Feb. 16.

In that contest, Trofholz, who shared this week's honor with Minnesota-Duluth's Bryan Foss, shot 57.9% (11-of-19) from the field and was 5-of-6 (83.3%) at the free throw line.

This season, Trofholz is the only player in Division II to average a 20-10 double double (21.2 ppg, 10.0 rpg). On the season, he is shooting 59.9% (208-of-347) from the field and 65% (106-of-163) at the free throw line.

Trofholz has scored in double figures in all 25 games this season, which is part of a 60-game double digit scoring streak. This season, he has scored 20 or more points in a game 17 times. He has become the only player in school history to record over 1,800 career points (1,811) and 800 rebounds (871). Trofholz is third in school history in career scoring and second in career rebounding.

The Coyotes will host Augustana on Thursday, Feb. 23 and St. Cloud State on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the DakotaDome to wrap up its regular season. Both games are slated for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
