VERMILLION, S.D. - The University of South Dakota women's basketball team shot 53.6 percent from the field to lead them to a 76-52 victory over the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon in Vermillion, S.D.
With the win the Coyotes improve to 3-1 overall while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2 on the season.
USD had three players score in double-digits as Bridget Yoerger (Sr., Hinton, Iowa) paced USD with 25 points and she was 11-for-17 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Maggie Youngberg (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) and Ashley Wiemann (Sr., Vermillion, S.D.) each added 14 points as they both hit four three-pointers in the game.
USD finished the game shooting 50 percent from three-point range connecting on 11-of 22.
The rebounds in the match-up were even at 27 a piece. USD was led in rebounding by Jasmine Mosley (Jr. Bellevue, Neb.) with six while Yoerger added five.
South Dakota went into halftime with a 33-27 lead after Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D) hit a lay-up at the buzzer to give USD a six point lead.
In the second-half, the Coyotes carried that momentum as they came out of the gates and went on a 4-0 run after a Mosley lay-up and a big three-pointer from Youngberg.
USD finished the game shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe (5-for-5), while UMD was 45.1 percent from the field while going 0-for-6 from the free-throw line.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 24 in the DakotaDome against Mount Marty College. Game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
