Concordia Snaps Coyotes' Winning Streak, 79-59

VERMILLION, S.D. - - Zoraa Quoie scored 28 points to lead Concordia-St. Paul to a 79-59 win over The University of South Dakota women's basketball team Monday night in Vermillion, S.D.

The loss ended a nine-game winning streak for the Coyotes (9-2).

Jasmine Mosley (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) tied a career-high with 14 points to lead USD, while Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D.) added 10.

The Coyotes, playing for the first time since Dec. 13, struggled from the for much of the game, shooting only 36.2 percent (21-of-58) from the field, including 25 percent (3-of-12) from three-point range.

Concordia led the whole first half, thanks to 17 points from Quoie. Concordia jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led by as many as 11 in the opening frame.

USD closed the gap to 25-20 with 6:18 left in the first half on a three-pointer Kendra Schomer (So., Madison, Neb.). That was as close as the Coyotes would get in the first half.

The Coyotes shot only 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from the field in the first half, compared to 51.5 percent (17-of-33) for Concordia. The Golden Bears had a 20-14 edge in rebounds in the first half.

Mosley led USD with 11 first-half points, while Bridget Yoerger (Sr., Hinton, Iowa) had nine.

Concordia went on a decisive 11-0 run in the first 4:51 of the second half to build a 50-30 lead. Quioa and Gillian Bjerke combined for all 11 points during the Golden Bear run. The Coyotes never warmed up offensively in the final 20 minutes, shooting only 33.3 percent in the second half.

Ashley Wiemann (Sr., Vermillion, S.D.) added eight points for USD. Yoerger had nine points and three steals. Schomer, Kelli Fargen (Jr., Brookings, S.D.) and Kara Iverson (Jr., Yankton, S.D.) had six points each for the Coyotes.

USD resumes action on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at home against Nebraska-Kearney. The game, which precedes a Coyote men's game against St. Olaf College, begins at 6 p.m. at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.

Notes: USD trailed at halftime for the first time this season...it was the first time Yoerger has not scored in double figures this season...Schomer's six points tied a career-high, while Iverson tied a career-high with six points.
