Terry Liggins broke his own DakotaDome record in the 60-meter hurdles to highlight the performances of The University of South Dakota men's and women's track and field teams on Saturday at the John Dalton Meet.
The South Dakota track and field program hosted more than 900 student-athletes and 22 teams at the meet, which is the largest track and field competition this year at the DakotaDome.
Liggins (Omaha, Neb.) ran a :07.98 to win the 60-meter hurdles while again meeting the NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark for nationals. Liggins had set the 60-meter hurdles record at the Dome with a :08.0 clocking in December. Liggins, a four-time All-American, has had a time of :08.05 or better five times in the 60-meter hurdles this indoor season. He also finished third in the men's high jump (6-04) and was fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.08).
Jenessa Filler (Jr., Crooks, S.D.) led the Coyote women's team with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.89). Katie Cerling (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) claimed second in the women's pole vault with a personal-best indoor mark of 11-07. Haley Peterson (Fr., Norfolk, Neb.) took fourth (11'01) in the women's pole vault.
In the men's pole vault competition, USD's Andrew Smith (Fr., Hermosa, S.D.) was third as he tied his a personal-best of 15-0.
Shaneaka Parkes (Jr., Brown's Town, Minard Hall, St. Ann, Jamaica) claimed third in the women's 60-meter dash (:07.86). Junior Allison Duba (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) was fourth (2:22.33) in the 800-meter run.
Three Coyote throwers took fourth place, including Amy Velthoff (Jr., Harlan, Iowa) in the women's weight throw (50-11). Preston Scott (Jr., Parker, S.D.) was fourth (52-10) in the men's weight throw while Ben Walters (Jr., Lennox, S.D.) also took fourth (51-06.5) in the men's shot put.
The men's and women's track teams will host the South Dakota Qualifier at the DakotaDome on Saturday, February 23.
