PREVIEW: Twelve Coyotes look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships this week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – South Dakota Track and Field has 12 student-athletes in Fayetteville, Arkansas for the NCAA West First and Second Rounds, hosted at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field.
 
COYOTES IN ACTION
A total of nine men and three women earned their spots in the field at the West First and Second Rounds, including a total of seven pole vaulters, two throwers, two hurdlers, and one jumper.

For the Coyote men, Caelan Harland, Beau Karst, Wyatt Stewart, Dylan Curtis, and Dutch Neuweiler all qualified for the pole vault competition. Karst and Stewart are making their second West Prelims appearance while it is the first trip for Harland, Curtis, and Neuweiler.
 
Joining the men's pole vault squad are Jaden Damiano (2nd appearance) and Mikael Grace (3rd app.) in the 110-meter hurdles, Brandon Vander Sluis (1st app.) in the shot put, and Landon Olson (3rd app.) in the high jump.
 
On the women's side, Anna Willis and Marleen Mülla are looking to continue their record-breaking seasons in the pole vault. Both women have broken the indoor school record and currently share the record, while Willis is the outdoor school record holder. The duo placed second and third at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Willis is making her second appearance at the West Prelims, while this is Mülla's fourth and final trip.

Delaney Smith is making her second appearance at the NCAA West First and Second Rounds for the hammer throw this week.

MEET SCHEDULE
The first Coyotes to compete this week will be Jaden Damiano and Mikael Grace in the men's 110-meter hurdle first rounds at 6 p.m. Wednesday. If they place in the top 24, they advance to the quarterfinals, scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Friday. Also competing Wednesday are the five men's pole vaulters and Brandon Vander Sluis in the shot put. Both events are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. The top 12 finishers in both the shot put and pole vault will advance to the NCAA Championships in June.
 
All three Coyote women will compete Thursday, looking to punch their tickets to Eugene. Delaney Smith will start the day with the women's hammer at 9:30 a.m., then the Coyotes will have Willis and Mülla on the pole vault runway starting at 7 p.m.
 
The final competitor of the week for USD is Landon Olson in the men's high jump, which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start Friday.
