South Dakota is 12-3 overall, after going 2-1 on the road trip to Colorado last week...USD beat Colorado School of Mines (52-48) and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (66-58)and then lost a close battle to Division I Colorado State (56-55)...South Dakota had a nine-game winning streak earlier this season...the Coyotes are averaging 69.5 points per game and shooting 43.8 percent from the field...Bridget Yoerger leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 17.5 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game....Yoerger has scored double-digits in 13 out of the 15 games while having 20-plus point scoring performances in six games this season...she has also had double-doubles in seven of the contests...Ashley Wiemann is second on the team with a 12.5 ppg average while Annie Roche and Maggie Youngerberg each have an 8.9 ppg average...Wiemann leads the team with 54 three-pointers and has a team-high 48.6 three-point field goal shooting percentage...Roche and Jasmine Mosley lead the team in assists with 53 each... The Huskies are 4-12 overall and are currently on a three-game losing streak...the Huskies will play Texas Southern on Jan. 13 before facing the Coyotes...HBU's four wins this season have come against Houston-Tillotson (84-65), Wiley College (71-59), Eastern Kentucky University (81-69) and Central Arkansas (66-61)...Jelela Simpson leads the team with a 9.7 points per game average and also has a team-high 6.5 rebound per game average. COLORADO GAME RECAPS:
vs. UC-Colorado Springs: The USD women's basketball team had four players score in double figures to lead the Coyotes to a 66-58 victory over the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Monday night in the Lions' Den.
USD who went into halftime trailing 35-33, came out strong in the second half going on a 13-2 run in the first seven and half minutes. The Coyotes led by as many as ten in the second half of play (51-41).
South Dakota was led by a career-high performance from Annie Roche who put up 17 points while also adding a team-high five assists. Kendra Schomer also had a strong showing both defensively and offensively as she added a career-high 11 points. Wiemann was five-of-eight from three-point range as she added 15 points. Jasmine Mosley contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. Bridget Yoerger led South Dakota with 10 rebounds. UCCS however held a 50-31 rebound advantage in the contest as the Mountain Lions pulled down 21 offensive boards.
USD finished the game shooting 44.2 percent (23-52) from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc (9-18). UCCS shot 31.9 percent from the field and were lead by Mallory Lowe and Jazzmin Awa-Williams with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
vs. Colorado State: Bridget Yoerger led the Coyotes with outstanding double-double performance of 18 points and 16 rebounds but could not get her last second shot to fall as the USD women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 56-55 loss to Colorado State University on Saturday, Jan. 3
USD held a 10-point lead at 42-32 with seven minutes remaining but Colorado State put together a 10-0 run to tie the game at 42-42 with 10 minutes left. After a back and forth battle between the teams, Yoerger hit a free-throw to give the Coyotes a one point lead with 37 seconds left but CSU's Amaka Uzomah made a lay-up with 18 seconds left to give the Rams a 56-55 advantage.
Yoerger led the charge, as she finished the game shooting 6-of-12 from the field and was 6-of-10 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in the contest. Annie Roche added 12 points and Maggie Youngberg was the third Yote to reach double figure points as she posted 11 points.
Jasmine Mosley led the team with three assists while adding seven points. Ashley Wiemann also contributed seven points. South Dakota finished the game shooting 42.2 percent from the field (19-of-45) while holding Colorado State to a 38.6 field goal shooting percentage. Colorado State however held a 36-29 edge in rebounds.
vs. Colorado School of Mines: Ashley Wiemann scored a team-high 15 points to lead The University of South Dakota women's basketball team to a thrilling a 52-48 win over the Colorado School of Mines in action Friday, Jan. 2.
South Dakota, who trailed by as much as a seven points twice in the second half, took the lead late in the second half at 47-46 after a big 3-pointer by Ashley Wiemann with 2:51 remaining. After a CSM basket, the Yotes matched it with a basket from Bridget Yoerger (Sr., Hinton, Iowa) off an offensive rebound to give the Coyotes another one point lead (49-48) with just over two minutes remaining.
Maggie Youngberg then went to the free-throw line with 14 seconds remaining and drained two free-throws to put the Coyotes up 51-48. Yoerger then capped off the win hitting one free-throw at the end of the game to give South Dakota its second straight victory.
Wiemann led the team with 15 points while making three 3-pointers. Yoerger had a double-double as she scored 12 points while also adding a team-high 12 rebounds. Youngberg was the third Coyote to reach double-figures in scoring as she added 10 points. Jasmine Mosley led the team with three assists while having seven rebounds.
USD finished the game shooting a season low 29.5 percent from the field (13-44). The Coyotes were also out-rebounded 45-35 in the game.
GREAT WEST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Bridget Yoerger was named the Great West Conference Women's Player of the Week, for the week ending Nov. 16, the league office announced. Yoerger led the Coyotes to a 1-1 record as the senior averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds. She shot 53.1 percent from the field and 92.9 percent (13-of-14) from the free-throw line.

Career Rebounds: Bridget Yoerger has 747 career rebounds...she is ranked 5th in school history for career rebounds.
Career Points: Bridget Yoerger has 1,383 career points...she now ranks 5th in school history for career points.
Three-Point Field Goals: Ashley Wiemann ranks 4th in career 3-point field goals with 179.
Maggie Youngberg has 106 career 3-point field goals and now ranks 10th in career 3-point field goals.
Career Blocked Shots: Bridget Yoerger has 85 career blocked shots which ranks 3rd all-time in career blocked shots...the record is held at 134 by Jean Misterek, 1983-87. Amber Hegge has 54 career blocked shots which ranks 8th in school history...it ranked first in single-season blocks surpassing Mandy Koupal's 53 in the 2003-04 season.
HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM:
The University of South Dakota is in its 38th season of women's basketball and has played 973 games compiling an all-time record of 557-419. Last season, 2007-08, the Coyotes won a school-record 33 games while making its first-ever appearance in the Division II title game after earning a second-place finish at the Elite Eight Division II Championship.
HOME RECORD:
The Coyotes have a overall record of 281-132 (.680) when playing at home. Last season USD went 19-0 at home, which marked the first time in school history a women's basketball team went undefeated in home contests.
INTERESTING NOTE:
The USD women's basketball program has a record of 45-5 dating back to the start of the 2007-08 season.
2007-08 REVIEW:
The Coyotes, who are making the jump to Division I in 2008-09, advanced all the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship game for the first time ever before losing to Northern Kentucky, 63-58.
USD finished with a 33-2 mark a year ago. The 33 wins easily eclipsed the old program's old record of 27, which was set in 2002-03. The Coyotes finished with a best-ever winning percentage of .943 during the magical season. USD was ranked No. 3 in the final USA Today/ESPN regular season poll and No. 2 in the final USA Today/ESPN poll.
