USD Women Cruise Past Mount Mercy College 79-51

VERMILLION, S.D. - The University of South Dakota's Ashley Wiemann had a career-high 24 points to lead the Coyote women's basketball team to a 79-51 victory over Mount Mercy College on Sunday afternoon in Vermillion, S.D.

The Coyotes improve to 13-6 overall with the win while Mount Mercy falls to 17-7 on the season.

Wiemann (Sr., Vermillion, S.D.) was red-hot from the floor in Sunday's game as she was 8-for-10 from the field and tied her career-high hitting seven three pointers. She led the way with 24 points.

The other Yote to score in double figures was Bridget Yoerger (Sr. Hinton, Iowa) as she added a double-double performance of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Yoerger also contributed on defense tying a career-high with four blocks.

Two other South Dakota players were close to reaching double figures in points scored as Maggie Youngberg (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) had nine points and Jasmine Mosley (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.)also added nine. Youngberg was also second on the team with five rebounds.

Mosley and Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D.) led the team in assists dishing out six a piece.

The Coyotes held a lead the entire game and took their largest lead in the second half with 8:21 remaining. USD went up by 34 after a three-point basket from Wiemann.

South Dakota capitalized on Mount Mercy's 19 turnovers as the Coyotes scored 17 points off turnovers. USD finished the game shooting 49 percent from the field (24-of-49) and a season-high 57.1 percent from three-point range (12-of-21).

Mount Mercy was held to just 29.6 percent shooting from the field (16-of-54) and only shot 25 percent from behind the arc (4-of-16). The Mustangs did however hold a 36-34 rebounding edge in the game.

USD will return to action next Sunday, February 8, playing the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 3 p.m. in the DakotaDome. The game was rescheduled from December.
