PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Former University of South Dakota football star Stefan Logan has signed a two-year contract with the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
Logan, the all-time rushing yards leader in USD football history, will begin Organized Team Activities (OTAs) with the team in mid-March. Pittsburgh recently won the Super Bowl title with a 27-23 win over Arizona.
"Getting signed by the team that just won the Super Bowl - that means a lot," Logan said. "For them to give me a call and bring me in, it's a great opportunity for me. I'm excited about it."
Logan, a native of Miami, Fla., will compete for a spot in the Steelers' backfield and also is expected to compete for time as a return man on special teams.
In his four years at USD (2003-06), Logan put together an outstanding record-setting career. He holds the Coyote career record for all-purpose yards (7,859) and rushing yards (5,958). In fact, his 5,958 career rushing yards alone rank him first in career all purpose yards. During his career he scored 35 touchdowns, which is the third highest total in school history. Logan is also second all-time in total offense at 6,836 yards and owns three of the top five single-season rushing marks in USD history.
Logan also placed his name in the NCAA and North Central Conference record books. He is sixth in career all purpose yards in NCAA Division II and is 11th in career rushing yards. Logan is also the only player in the history of the NCC to rush for 1,000 yards in four-straight seasons.
Logan spent the 2008 season with the Canadian Football League's British Columbia Lions where he was one the league's top offensive threats. Logan, who was a contender for the CFL Rookie of the Year honors, led BC with 889 yards rushing and was fourth on the team with 477 yards receiving. Logan was sixth in the CFL with 1,366 yards from scrimmage and was eighth in combined yards at 1,770. Logan was fourth in the CFL in rushing yards and averaged 7.3 yards per carry.
"I'm working out and getting ready so I can represent myself, represent USD and represent the BC Lions," Logan said. "I am going to go out there and do everything that I can to give it my all."
