Game notes

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota women’s basketball team will look to give head coach Amy Williams her 100th career win as they host the Idaho State Bengals on Thursday night at 4:45 p.m.  The game will be the first of a doubleheader, with the Coyote men taking on Western Illinois in the second game at 7 p.m.

Williams, who is in her sixth season as a coach and first season at South Dakota (2-4, 0-0), currently has a career record of 99-69.  She coached her first five seasons at Rogers State in Oklahoma.

The Coyotes, which are coming off a third-place finish at the Pepperdine Holiday Tournament in Malibu, Calif., will play four of their next five games at home.  They will host Utah Valley, Dakota State and Peru State during that stretch.  The lone road game will be a trip to Kansas State on Dec. 9.

After losing the tournament opener 70-54 to Pepperdine, the Coyotes rebounded for a 71-55 win against Seton Hall.  Nicole Seekamp had a career-high 20 points while freshman Heidi Hoff added 16 points in the win.  It was the first time USD had beaten a Big East opponent.

Three Coyotes averaged 10 or more points during the tournament.  Seekamp led the Coyotes with 14 points per game, and added an average of five rebounds.  Polly Harrington almost averaged a double-double at 12 points and nine rebounds, and Hoff shot 8-for-17 and 4-for-8 behind the three-point line in the tournament to average 11 points off the bench.

Idaho State (2-2, 0-0) made the NCAA Tournament last season after winning the Big Sky Conference.  USD has already played another NCAA Tournament-qualifier last season in Creighton, and will play one more in Kansas State.

Both of Thursday's games will be televised on Midco Sports Net.  1570 KVTK will broadcast the women's game, while 106.3 KVHT will air the men's game.

Up next:  South Dakota will host Utah Valley on Saturday at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.

About Idaho State:  The Bengals were picked to repeat as Big Sky champions in the preseason poll.  Cydney Horton leads the team with 12.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while Ashleigh Vella averages 12 points and eight rebounds per game.  Kaela Oakes and Lindsey Reed both average 10 points per game.

Idaho State made the NCAA Tournament last season as a 14-seed, but was knocked out in the first round by Miami (Fla.), 70-41.  They return four starters from last season.
