GREEN BAY, Wis.-- After falling behind early, Green Bay took advantage of a couple of nice crosses and a deep shot from Emily Friedl to net three goals and defeat South Dakota 3-1.
Once again the Coyotes (1-5-1) jumped out to a quick lead but were unable to maintain it. In the 11th minute a through ball from Lauren Bennett (Walton, Ky.) gave Jenny Teslow (Sioux Falls, S.D.) a one-on-one opportunity against Katy Pilarzyk, the Green Bay goalkeeper. Teslow's shot to the far post beat Pilarzyk and gave USD a 1-0 advantage. It was Teslow's fourth goal of the year.
It didn't take long for the Phoenix (3-4) to tie things up as 11 minutes later Emily Friedl put in a shot from 15 yards out. Friedl was assisted by Megan Braatz.
Green Bay took the lead for good at the 67:56 mark when Hekla Palmadottir found Hannah Kernen on a cross for the Phoenix' second goal. Kernen placed the header just past the outstretched arms of diving South Dakota keeper Abby Lindsay (Plymouth, Minn.). Lindsay made three saves on the day.
Heidi Hartmann added an insurance goal for the Phoenix.
The Coyotes will travel to Illinois to face Loyola Chicago Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
