Wilson scores 26 in USD win over IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - Tempestt Wilson scored a career high 26 points to lead South Dakota past the IUPUI Jaguars 76-56 in "The Jungle" on Saturday to gain sole possession of second place in the Summit League standings.

Wilson shot 12-for-16 from the field to pace South Dakota (11-10, 6-2), which had its best shooting performance of the season.  South Dakota shot a season-best 61 percent from the field and held a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint, while holding the Jaguars (11-9, 5-3) to 32 percent shooting.

Nicole Seekamp added 16 points while Margaret McCloud scored 10.  Polly Harrington and Lisa Loeffler led the Coyotes in rebounds with seven, and Alexis Yackley added five assists.

IUPUI was led by Katie Comello, who had 14 points.  Jordan Barton and DeAirra Goss both scored 10.  

Despite giving up the first eight points in the game, South Dakota rebounded with a 12-0 run to take the lead, and later had a 14-2 run to end the first half with a 38-22 lead.  Wilson scored 10 of her 16 first half points during those two runs.

The Coyotes led by as many as 23 in the second half, with Seekamp scoring 12 to lead the Yotes in scoring for the half. 

The Coyotes will return to the DakotaDome for three home games, starting with in-state rival and league leader South Dakota State on Wednesday night.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
