FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Fort Wayne scored the match's final three points to hand South Dakota volleyball its second straight Summit League loss, topping the Coyotes 25-18, 19-25, 25-17, 20-25, 16-14 on Saturday night in the Gates Sports Center. The loss dropped the Coyotes (16-8, 7-2) into a first-place tie with IUPUI in the league standings.
Emily Spencer recorded 26 kills and 13 digs while Kendall Wienkes had 16 kills and 13 digs to lead the Mastodons (13-12, 5-4). Fort Wayne forced 29 USD attack errors and held a 10-6 advantage in blocks.
South Dakota was led by Kendall Kritenbrink's 25 kills and 19 digs. Tori Kroll added 48 assists and 13 digs, Sydney Dimke recorded 14 kills, and Audrey Reeg and Kaitlyn Hastings both added 11 digs.
Fort Wayne rallied from an 8-4 deficit in the fifth set and came back from a USD match point opportunity at 14-13. Spencer tallied four kills and Fort Wayne forced five attack errors during their final 12-6 run.
The Coyotes are now tied with IUPUI for the lead in the Summit League standings at 7-2 while Denver sits a match back at 6-3. IUPUI topped Denver 25-17, 25-23, 18-25, 29-27 on Saturday night.
South Dakota will be back in the DakotaDome on Friday night to host South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
